This week is Carnival so let's talk about what it all means.

Historically, Carnival represented an opportunity to 'turn the world upside down'. Where ordinary folk could party in the street, let of steam and generally have a good time before returning to their (often) difficult daily routines. This week's article discusses the cities that still celebrate carnival around the world.

Questions for discussion:

  1. Do modern day Carnivals still represent a kind of opportunity where people can 'loose themselves - or become someone else' for a day?
  2. If so, is this a good thing? Is it something we all need to do from time to time?
  3. If you have been to a carnival, what was your experience? Was it a 'world turned upside down', or does it represent something completely different these days, if so what and why?
