This week let’s talk about stories, how they are told and who reads them. Most popular European literature is written through the prism of the educated white person. The narrative generally comes with inbuilt stereotypes and ingrained prejudices all a subconscious product of Western culture and education. In turn, in a vicious circle, the literature reinforces the stereotypes. Where is the the other side of the story? Should we rewrite popular children’s tales? Have you delved into foreign literature and popular tales?
Here’s a TED talk to illustrate the topic: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=F4a7oQ5vwP4
