A violent nation? This week we will discuss the thoughts of Spanish director Miguel Ángel Rolland. In 2015 he made a documentary called 'Santa Fiesta' highlighting what he considers is widespread animal cruelty still practiced in Spain. Rolland suggests that the 'Spanish are a savage, insensitive and ignorant people'. Strong words indeed.

Questions for discussion:
1. Do you agree that religious festivals encourage animal cruelty in Spain?
2. The director states that he 'did not see anyone object' to the way animals were treated. Is this a fair comment?
