Let's talk about gene editing. In November, two girls were born in China with edited genes that should make them resistant to HIV infection. The scientific community is shocked that this technique has been applied without further investigation or a system of ethical and moral control in place. The controversy related to this event is that this genetical change could be passed on to future generations, however, the possibilities for development of the technique to combat other ailments such as cancer are immense.
Do you think it is ethical to permit such experimentation? Do you think that playing at being god is acceptable? Do you see a rosy future for humanity by applying this type of procedure?
