Let's Talk about the future of transport
The evolution of transport from the invention of the wheel to space shuttles has been a never ending quest for faster and more direct links. This ever increasing network of roads and rail onland promise interconnectivity into the future, however, despite fears of contamination and the scarcity of petroleum (see.http://www.peakoil.org/) alternatives like the electric car fail to become popular.
In 2008 steam returned to the railways of Britain(see http://www.a1steam.com/)
2009 saw the biggest ever drop in air traffic passenger numbers since the 1940s. Does this spell the end of cheap air travel?
So what does the future hold for travel? Perhapas the recuperation of closed railway lines (http://www.eltiempo.es/fotos/en-provincia-salamanca/el-duero-en-la-fregeneda-y-barca-d-alva.html) and a national cycle network (http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TablD=3685) or a science fiction vision of personalised flying automatically between destinations in the blink of an eye? Come along and share your views and comments on Friday.
