Christmas comes to the Let's Talk sessions in the Casa de las Conchas on Friday 18th December at 6.30pm.A typical English Christmas wouldn't be complete without some or all of the following;
Literature;
Charles Dickens; "A Christmas Carol," "David Copperfield"
Music; traditionally groups of singers went from door to door singing Christmas carols (in the hope of compensation). Pop artists release Christmas songs with a seasonal sound.
Advent calendars, Christmas decorations and Christmas cards; equally loved and hated but generally adopted. The calendar counts off the 25 days to Christmas, the tinsel decorators argue about the relevant environmental attributes of the real versus the plastic tree and everyone anguishes over the card list and which charity to be seen supporting. Not forgetting to mention ridiculous red and white hats and christmas crackers.
Food; Roast turkey, cranberry sauce, brussel sprouts, mince tarts, trifle and Christmas pudding.
Snow, epic films on TV, Santa Claus, presents, Christmas day church service. Boxing day holiday.
Pagan element; yule log, holly, kissing under the mistletoe, winter solstice.
